Proper at home care will help extend the wear of your fur garment and keep it as beautiful as the day you purchased it. Here is a simple list which will help you to care for your fur & fine outerwear garments at home:

• York Furrier recommends hanging your fur on a broad-shouldered hanger so the weight of the fur will be evenly distributed without straining shoulder seams.
• Hang your coat with the collar up to prevent flattening the fur. Also allow enough space around your fur for air circulation.
• Keep your fur away from heat vents or any direct heat source which would cause the leather to become dry and brittle.
• Keep furs away from direct light sources to avoid color changes.
• When fur gets wet, shake gently to remove excess moisture and hang in a cool, dry place. There is no need to brush or comb a fur; a gentle shake will fluff it out.
• Never place chemicals or moth preservatives on or near your fur.
• Friction can break fur guard hairs. We suggest you carry packages and handbags away from direct contact with your coat. Also, jewelry worn on the wrist and neck may cause unnecessary wear to the cuffs and collar.
• Do not store furs in bags.

For your convenience, York Furrier offers a free, bonded pick-up and delivery service. Our York Furrier employee will safely transport your coats from your home or business to the security of our storage vaults. From the moment your fur enters York Furrier, you can be assured that our fur professionals will treat it with the utmost care and respect.

Cleaning

Cleaning is as necessary and important as summer storage to maintain your fur's original brilliance and luster. Yearly cleaning is recommended to remove dust, dirt, oils and other soiling substances that can accumulate on your furs even without wear.

Please note that the fur cleaning process is very different from the dry cleaning process used on your clothes. Dry cleaning uses chemicals that can dry out fur and make the leather brittle. When York Furrier cleans your fur, we use a custom process that has been specifically designed to clean and revitalize furs. First, the process removes the dirt and excess oils. Next, your fur is glazed to bring out the natural sheen and luster. This process preserves the elegance of your treasured fur providing maximum durability.

York also provides essential cleaning services for leathers, shearlings, suedes and cashmeres. And, to protect against the effects of harsh weather, York offers a specialized Ultraguard® Protection treatment for suedes, leathers and shearlings.

Insurance

Because we know that your furs are precious to you, York Furrier recommends that your furs be insured against fire, theft and other losses.

At York Furrier we would be happy to provide you with a professional appraisal to submit to your insurance agency. Please note, there will be a nominal charge for this service for store labels other than York Furrier.

Because some policies may not cover the full value of your fur and as part of our full service concept, York Furrier does offer fur insurance policies; ask for details.
