York Furrier Rocks the Runway at Drury Lane #FURaGreatCause

On Saturday, May 20th, York Furrier, Inc., located in the Elmhurst City Centre, presented an extraordinary selection of Furs, Fine Outerwear, and Accessory Items for both Men and Women at the Alpha Alpha Sigma Zeta Chapter’s luncheon fashion show. The 3rd annual event was themed, “Touch of Pearls – An Afternoon of Fashion” and was held in the ballroom at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. The ladies of the Aurora based chapter, community leaders, several Zeta fraternity brothers, and a ballroom filled with guests, enjoyed an immensely entertaining extravaganza!

The event opened with boutique shopping. Vendors included: Afro Delights, CBPI, Inc., Landis Cosmetics, Pamper Me Candles, Paparazzi Accessories and Boutique, Tendaji Body Oils, and With Love in Mind. As guests shopped, they purchased chances to win an array of wonderful prizes including a gift package from York Furrier – a YF Collection Ocean Blue topper with tassels paired with an artist printed long flowing scarf. Other coveted raffle gifts were theatre tickets from Drury Lane, gift cards to Cheesecake Factory and Fogo de Chao, a wine basket, and a cash prize package with several additional gift cards. 

Guests were invited into the ballroom to be seated for the luncheon and several presentations. First up to the podium was member, Chamus Burnside-Savazzini to introduce the chapter President, Anna Willis-Jordan. Following Anna’s welcoming comments, member, Darlene Phillips presented the chapter’s educational scholarship to East Aurora High School graduate, Mikayla Wilson who will be heading to Illinois State University this Fall.  While lunch was being served, Jenea Smith announced the raffle winners.

Following lunch, York Furrier kicked off the Polk Entertainment produced fashion show with a small sampling of selections from the store’s extensive 92nd Anniversary Collection. Opening the YF segment were hot firefighter, Terrance, and the mother-daughter model duo, Tanya and Kayla. Terrance donned the men’s fox hooded zip jacket in blue, white & black. Tanya wore an on theme blue mink hooded zip jacket with fox trim plus pink leather gloves and a natural YF Design Team created ranch mink barrel bag with a silver crossbody or shoulder strap. And Kayla sported a vivid multi-color fox hooded zip jacket accessorized with a sheared fur hobo bag paired with periwinkle knit fingerless gloves. The trio was followed by models Barbara and Brenda Tucker-Jeffries wearing selections from the YF Fine Outerwear Collection in camel/cream and blue/cream color combinations. Brenda accessorized her camel hair coat with a YF Design Team created mink cell bag with a gold crossbody chain. Barbara carried a matching fox and leather tote with her fringe trimmed coat. Kevin took over the runway wearing a reversible ale colored shearling and leather car coatDr. Camille Crawford, a Riverside Healthcare Clinical Pharmacy Manager, was met with a rousing round of applause as she strolled the runway in a pretty, cotton candy pink superfine wool flounce jacket accessorized with a fox and leather bucket bag. Making her runway debut, Ciera, modeled a beautiful Zac Posen designed natural Blackglama ranch mink flounce coat paired with a fox beret and a ranch mink mini-bag. She shared the runway with the oh-so-handsome Kenny wearing a ranch mink zip jacket with a colorful chenille scarf tucked in the collar. Next, glam chapter member, Maame Amponsah, a chiropractor for Premier Physical Therapy with locations in Skokie and Evergreen Park, brightened the runway wearing a haute pink silk leather blazer and the perfect warm weather accessory, a shoulder/crossbody bag with intricate handcrafted leather flowers. Models Lydia and Jocelyn followed wearing fox trimmed sculptured sheared mink pieces. Jocelyn wore the hooded jacket with a fox bucket bag, while Lydia strutted down the runway in the walking coat style wearing a colorful fox beret and carrying a metallic box clutch with a jewel clasp. Tanya and Kayla then returned to the runway wearing lynx. Tanya modeled the MUST HAVE versatile reversible hooded lynx walking coat with fox trim. On the inside, the fur coat doubles as a raincoat with a bronze shimmer rain repellent taffeta lining – perfect for two-in-one styling!  She carried a suede and leather animal print oversized tote with tassel trim. Kayla sported the YF Collection lynx zip jacket and carried a fox and leather tote. A big “Thanks!” to DJ Maurice Runnels of Hot Sounds Productions for providing the York Furrier segment’s runway soundtrack!  And, Kudos to Dr. Polk and Terry Holcomb for all their behind-the-scenes work.

Proceeds from the afternoon FUNdraiser will benefit Aurora area community support for local families, educational scholarships, and health awareness programs. Previous beneficiaries have included: Adopt-A-School Program, the Elder Care Initiative, Z-Hope (Zetas Helping Other People Excel), the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry, and the March of Dimes – March for Babies Walk.
