It’s Summertime in Chicagoland!!!

Now that you’re enjoying outdoor concerts, patio dining, family picnics, and lazy days at the beach, it’s time to ensure that your fur and fine outerwear garment investments are being well cared for in the safe, secure, on-site temperature and humidity-controlled vaults at York Furrier in the Elmhurst City Centre. Whether you have a new sheared beaver jacket, a family heirloom mink coat, a thrift shop found mink stole, a favorite leather jacket, a bespoke cashmere coat, or a well-worn shearling jacket, the YF Staff and talented Design Team are available every Tuesday thru Saturday to make sure your fur and fine outerwear garments will look spectacular for next season and beyond. All store labels are welcome!

STORAGE

When temps are HOT, your Fur, Leather, Shearling, and Fine Fabric garments need to be at York Furrier for some TLC. At home air conditioning, cedar closets, and humid basements are poor substitutes for the optimum care provided on-site by York Furrier. Save your fur and outerwear garments from excessive heat, insects, odors, mold/mildew, crowded closets, even theft while you’re enjoying a fabulous summer vacay. Drop off your fur and outerwear garments during YF Service Hours for the necessary protection provided by the on-site climate-controlled storage vaults at York Furrier.

CLEANING/CONDITIONING

York Furrier provides on-site, customized care to clean and condition your fur and outerwear garments. 

For furs, the environmentally friendly, furrier method cleaning process restores both sheen and luster. Dust and dirt, and harmful salt stains are removed. With cleaning and conditioning, the fur’s natural oils are maintained to preserve the pelt and keep it soft and supple. Silk linings are also cleaned. 

For leathers and shearlings, hand cleaning enhances color and texture, while weather guard and stain protection applications prepare garments for protection against the elements during fall/winter use. In the case of odors – cigarette smoke, perfume, fire or smoke damage, gasoline spills, or a musty smell – York Furrier offers a specialty ozone treatment used in conjunction with the YF Cleaning to neutralize and remove offensive odors. 

For fine fabrics, hand cleaning removes soil and stains, while improving the fabric’s texture. 

For luxe down garments and skiwear, York Furrier utilizes proper cleaning methods to maintain both the down feather texture and outer fabric material to like new condition.

REPAIRS/ALTERATIONS/RESTYLING

Repairs, a better fit, or a new stylish look, the York Furrier Staff and Design Team will assist you with all your fur and fine outerwear needs. Each garment that arrives at York Furrier will be thoroughly inspected to assess the type of restorative work needed. From hood or collar to hemline, each garment will have lining, closures, and material condition examined. 

To bring older style furs and outerwear up to date, the YF Design Team is able to shorten/lengthen sleeves or hemlines, raise dolman armholes, taper billowy sleeves, reshape the garment’s silhouette, or, convert a fur coat to a zip jacket or a vest with a detachable hood. 

Other YF Services include:

• Replacing faux fur with real fur on hoods, collars, cuffs, or facings.
• Adding real fur to cashmere, wool, or a down garment.
• Converting a fur coat or jacket to a fur lined raincoat or reversible rainwear/fur style by adding a rainwear lining or shell.

UPCYLING/REPURPOSING

With proper care, a fur garment will provide years, even decades of enjoyment.  Regular maintenance allows the YF Design Team to continually update and refresh your garment, or completely transform it into something NEW. As the ultimate recyclable product, fur may be ReWorked or ReFURbished, to be ReEnjoyed in a new format as a fur accessory item – clutch, headband, backpack, scarf, glove or boot trim, etc.; dressing-up a denim jacket with fur trim or a fur liner; creating a fur novelty item – fur teddy bear, fur trimmed Santa Claus, a coat for your pet, or fur baby booties; or, creating fur home décor pieces – fur pillows, fur throws, fur blankets, fur chair covers, fur covered foot stool, or fur floor coverings.
