FUR Scene – A Daddy & Daughter Father’s Day Celebration in the Elmhurst City Centre
There’s nothing like a Father and Daughter bond. Since the first moment he met his beautiful baby girl, your Dad instantly became your protector, provider, role model, staunch supporter, and overall superhero. As years passed, and you moved on from his little princess to an independent, beautiful young lady, your time spent together may have lessened; however, every moment you do share is filled with fun and happy moments that become cherished memories.

Since 2014, owned and operated by husband and wife duo, Mike and Cyndi Allas, Tannins offers selections to take home or to sit, sip, and nibble at cozy tables inside or outside. In addition to the extensive wine list, offerings include: craft beers, Martinis, Manhattans, and a spirited selection of cleverly named cocktails. For bites, the menu includes cheese flights, spinach and artichoke dip, a cognac infused duck liver pate, and a decadent chocolate dessert sampler. Speaking of chocolate, while Kevin sipped a glass of Taittinger Prélude Grand Crus champagne and Kelly enjoyed a glass of Quilt chardonnay, Dad and Daughter shared an almond and a strawberry infused chocolate bars. Kilwins Elmhurst

Family owned and operated in the Elmhurst City Centre, Kilwins (an original since 1947!) is a full confectionery shop offering on-site kitchen-made fudge, homemade caramel (and ginormous caramel apples), handmade chocolates including their signature Tuttles, sea salt collection, truffles, and toffee, as well as 32 flavors of original recipe Ice Cream. How do you possibly choose just one treat?!? Speaking of “treats,” though it was a Father’s Day adventure in Elmhurst, Kevin broke-out his YF Collection leather wallet to treat Kelly to some handcrafted pecan brittle and a colorful bag of gummy bears. YUM!!!

Classic Cinemas – York Theatre

There’s nothing like watching a movie while relaxed in cushy reclining seats in a darkened theatre with surround-sound and nibbling on a bucket of fresh popped popcorn. Kevin and Kelly loved the ambiance and the popcorn at Elmhurst’s fully restored historic theatre. Now a family-owned theatre (Willis, Shirley & Chris Johnson) the York Theatre was originally designed by architect, Elmer Behrens, and opened in 1924. Classic Cinemas began operating and restoring the Spanish motif theatre in 1982. Through several expansions and updates, movie goers are able to choose offerings from 10 screens – on this day, the choice was “In the Heights.”

151 Kitchen/Bar

For dinner, Kevin and Kelly headed out of the York Theatre across the street to hot spot, 151 Kitchen/Bar. With locally sourced ingredients for their seasonally changing menu, creative cocktails, local craft beers, and curated wine selections, this locally owned restaurant brings the Chicago dining experience to the heart of Elmhurst’s City Centre. Kevin and Kelly’s Father’s Day experience ended at a high top table in 151’s rustic bar area. They enjoyed some shareable plates – grilled octopus with truffle potato puree and crab cakes with spiced aioli – and then split a roasted beet salad with caramelized fig topped with grilled shrimp. Kelly sipped a 151 Frosé (rosé with strawberry, citrus liqueur and a bit of vodka) while Kevin enjoyed the Truchard Cab. It was the perfect ending to a really fun and fashionable Father/Daughter Day in Elmhurst, IL!!!
